With free agency set to begin March 11, BengalsGab’s part-time blogger (he knows not to quit his day job) Florida Bengal is counting down his top 10 targets the Bengals could realistically acquire and should look at once free agency officially opens up.
There are a few players on this list I simply have an irrational desire for the Cincinnati Bengals to pursue in free agency. Alex Carrington is one of them.
A 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman that can play 3-4 end or 4-3 tackle, Carrington hits the open market this year after a four-year stay with the Buffalo Bills. Something of a surprise third-round pick out of Arkansas State in 2010, Carrington had developed well in his first three years and became a starter before a season-ending quad tear in Week 3 last year.
The fact that the Bills appear to be letting him walk could be a bad sign for Carrington’s rehab. Assuming he’s cleared for action, however, Carrington is a guy I’d like to see us make a run at in free agency this offseason.
Yes, I know the Bengals typically promote their breakout linemen from within — i.e. Frostee Rucker, Jonathan Fanene and Wallace Gilberry — but Carrington could be a great sleeper in this season’s free agent class.
