Larry Johnson to Work Out For Bengals; Benson Not Happy

While Cedric Benson will be in New York to appeal the three-game suspension handed down by Commissioner Roger Goodell, his potential replacement will be in Cincinnati looking for a return engagement with the Bengals.

Larry Johnson, who spent part of the 2009 season in Cincinnati, will be in town Tuesday to work out for the Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Johnson was released last week by the Miami Dolphins for the second time this year.

Benson, who filed a lawsuit against the NFL Players Association for agreeing to allow Goodell to discipline eight players who had off-field incidents during the lockout, said the 2010 incident where he recently served jail time was not what got him suspended. And he added that a July incident during the lockout was apparently the reason for the suspension – a case that was ultimately dismissed after some restitution on Benson’s part.

“You would think they’re here to support you and have your back, that’s what a union does. I guess in my case it’s different,” Benson said.
