The Houston Texans have been putting on some big offensive shows the past couple of weeks, and Sunday may have been their best yet, pounding the hapless Cincinnati Bengals 35-6 at Reliant Stadium to improve to 3-4 on the season. The Bengals, a team that has allowed 73 points the last two weeks, drop to 0-8.
It was an ex-Bengal that had a big day against his former team, as Kevin Walter pulled in two touchdowns. Matt Schaub was on fire, going 24-for-28 for 280 yards with three TD’s. While Walter had two TD’s receiving, Andre Johnson had another big day with 11 catches for 143 yards.
Cincinnati was outgained 384 to 253, and held the ball for just 24:49 while the Texans had it for 35:11. Ryan Fitzpatrick, playing again for the injured Carson Palmer, was 20-for-32 for 155 yards with two interceptions and a QB rating of 48.3. Cedric Benson was the teams leading rusher with 49 yards on 13 carries.
Houston got off to a fast start, as Jacoby Jones took back a Kyle Larson punt 73 yards just about three minutes into the game for a quick 7-0 Texans lead. The Bengals answered, as Shayne Graham kicked a 43-yard field goal to make it 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Texans went up 14-3 on a Schaub to David Anderson TD from six yards out. Graham kicked another field goal to make it 14-6 at the half. The Texans scored 14 points in the third quarter to put the game away, as Schaub hit Walter for two TD’s one from 7 yards out and another from 39 yards to make it 28-6.
Steve Slaton wrapped up the scoring with a 20-yard TD with 9:54 to go to make it 35-6. The Bengals had four second half possessions, going punt, fumble, interception and interception. They gained just 80 yards on those four second half drives.
