Time for Marvin to Pay the Price for Losing

38-10 in front of a home crowd that seemed to be split 50-50 between Steelers and home Bengals fans. 0-7 with an offense that is scoring just 14 points and a defense that is giving up 26 per game. It really comes down to one thing – when is the heat going to come down on the man at the top – Marvin Lewis?

The coach is in the end, responsible for the actions of his team, and while the Bengals with a backup QB were able to hang with the Steelers till about midway through the 4th quarter, the team still lost by four touchdowns. The Bengals are no better now than they were before Marvin arrived, and that is reason enough for the team to start thinking about 2009, and a future without Lewis running the show.

He’s a good man, and has talent as a coach, but for whatever reason has not been able to get this team to respond. They have been lackluster the past two seasons on offense, with or without Carson Palmer, and the defense has been bad for years, even the year they won 11 games before being bested in the first round of the playoffs.

Maybe what is worse is the teams games as of late against their rivals. Sunday’s pounding by the Steelers was yet another for their rivals, who has not lost to the Bengals in Pittsburgh since 2001. A few weeks ago against the Browns, they were unable to take advantage of a Cleveland team at home that has won only one other game other than the 20-12 beating of the Bengals.

So now with nine games left, the Bengals are back to being the “Bungles” and with it a top five and likely a top three draft pick. It’s time Lewis has to be held accountable for his actions, and that of a team that simply isn’t playing nearly as good as it could. It’s time for him to pay the price for losing.
