Bengals TE C.J. Uzomah Diagnosed with Ankle Sprain

USA TODAY Sports

The Bengals avoided yet another worst-case scenario regarding a non-contact injury in training camp with tight end C.J. Uzomah.

Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer learned that the third-year tight end suffered a severely sprained left ankle during practice on Monday.

Early in camp, starting safety George Iloka went to the ground in a non-contact situation and grabbed his knee, but it was found he suffered no structural damage and is on track to return by the season opener on Sept. 10.

Uzomah, a fifth-round pick out of Auburn in 2015, played in 10 games (eight starts) last season, catching 25 passes on 38 targets for 234 yards and a touchdown.

He played in five games and had one catch as a rookie.
