Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert reportedly suffered a “setback” in practice this week and his status is now “uncertain” for the team’s Week 5 road game against the Cowboys according to Adam Schefter and Katherine Terrell of ESPN.
Schefter added that the setback is apparently not releated to the ankle injury that kept him out all of training camp and for the first four games of the regular season. Eifert underwent ankle surgery this offseason but returned to practice on September 21 and had targeted Week 5 as his return to action.
On Monday, Eifert was spotted walking with a limp during the open locker room period, but walked to the practice fields with the rest of the team about an hour later. Monday’s practice was closed to the media and the Bengals were not required to give out an injury report, so there is no indication of how much he participated in the session. He was not at practice on .Wednesday.
C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Kroft have been filing in at tight end but have not had the same kind of impact in red-zone offense as Eifert, who scored 13 touchdowns in only 13 games for the Bengals in 2015.
