Free agent wishlist: No. 8

He couldn't beat the Bengals with Minnesota. Does that mean it's time for Erin Henderson to join 'em?

With free agency set to begin March 11, BengalsGab’s part-time blogger (he knows not to quit his day job) Florida Bengal is counting down his top 10 targets the Bengals could realistically acquire and should look at once free agency officially opens up.

With the potential migration of Bengals defensive players to Minnesota to follow former defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer to his new haunt, there’s at least one former Viking I’d like to see make the reverse trip to Cincinnati.

I’ll get this out of the way early — Henderson is an idiot. Anyone who drives while intoxicated is an idiot and someone who’s a millionaire who gets picked up for two DWIs in less than a year is on a different level in terms of poor decision making.

That said, he’s talented and will be cheap. Sounds like a classic Mike Brown project to me (and not the only one you’ll see on this list), how about you?

One of the many who isn’t sold on Rey Maualuga in the middle, Henderson would be an instant upgrade. Worst case scenario is he’s a likely body who can play in the middle with the likely departure of Vincent Rey. Henderson has played at least 14 games for Minnesota in each of the last three seasons and racked up a combined total of 262 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions (both coming last season).

The Bengals have their reputation as thugs and jailbirds to some no matter what but recent history has shown the locker room is mature enough to handle the tough cases.

Henderson is another such case, but with his upside and likely price tag, he’s the type of player the Bengals should look into. I’d be much happier with Maualuga on the strong side, Henderson in the middle and Vontaze Burfict on the weak side than any trio we saw from Cincinnati last year.
