Dan Herron Among Those Released by the Bengals

RB Dan Herron was among 18 players waived by the Bengals on Friday night to get down to the 53-man roster limit.

The sixth-round draft pick averaged only 1.7 yards per carry in the preseason. He ran 15 times for 29 yards during the final preseason game at Indianapolis on Thursday night.

The most experienced player waived was linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy, a fourth-round pick in 2010 who missed last season with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Bengals also placed defensive tackle Pat Sims on the physically unable to perform list. Sims missed the last five games last season because of ankle injuries that limited him during training camp. He won’t be able to practice for the first six weeks.

Linebacker Dontay Moch will miss the first four games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The Bengals also placed safety Tony Dye on a reserve list with an ankle injury, ending his season. Defensive tackle Nick Hayden was released with an injury settlement following his ankle injury.

Also waived were running back Jourdan Brooks, tight end Colin Cochart, long snapper Bryce Davis, fullback James Develin, defensive end DeQuin Evans, receiver Vidal Hazelton, cornerback T.J. Heath, guard Otis Hudson, linebacker Grant Hunter, defensive end Micah Johnson, linebacker Emmanuel Lamur, cornerback Chris Lewis-Harris, defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga, offensive tackle Matthew O’Donnell, quarterback Zac Robinson and guard Reggie Stephens.
