Bengals Add CB Terrance Newman

In a move that has been rumored to happen for about the last two weeks, the Bengals have come to terms with free agent CB Terrance Newman.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the deal Wednesday morning.

Newman played under Mike Zimmer in Dallas, where he was the 5th overall pick of the Cowboys in the 2003 NFL Draft.

Newman had issues at the CB spot last season, and the Cowboys went out and inked free agent Brandon Carr to upgrade the position, leading Newman to the free agent market.

The veteran CB is 33-years old, and reports say it is a one-year deal. Newman was set to make $6 mil this upcoming season with Dallas.

Zimmer is a huge fan of Newman, as he gushed about him to the Fort Worth Star Telegram last month.

“I’ve known Terence for so long,” Zimmer said. “You know sometimes it’s just good for guys to get a change and get a new start on things. I always loved Terence. I always thought he was a good, competitive kid with a lot of ability.”

Now the Bengals will find out for real just how much the vet has left in the tank to help them in 2012.
