Bengals RB Cedric Benson Suspended Three Games

Cedric Benson

Bengals running back Cedric Benson has been suspended three games by the National Football League for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports.

In August, Benson was sentenced to 20 days in jail after pleading no contest to assault charges from 2010 in Austin, Texas. With good behavior, the sentence was expected to be significantly reduced. So much so that Benson was scheduled to serve the jail time during the Bengals’ bye week.

Instead, Benson served the time during the final week of the preseason, and re-joined the Bengals for their preparations for the regular season-opener against the Cleveland Browns.

In two games this season, Benson has 41 carries for 180 yards and a touchdown.

Silver adds that Benson will appeal his suspension, with a hearing scheduled for next Tuesday. That means that Benson will play in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. If the suspension is upheld, Benson will miss games against the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts.
