Bengals QB Scenarios

Since the odds are high that Carson Palmer will not be playing quarterback in Cincinnati in 2011 let’s look at the experience of the other QB’s currently on the Bengals roster and also what other free agent options that should be available after the lockout is lifted.

Currently on the roster (not including Carson):

Andy Dalton, 2nd Round draft pick, no experience.

Dan LeFevour, 2nd Season, no career statistics or regular season game experience.

Jordan Palmer – Career Stats:

*Note: Over the past 4 seasons Bulgers completion percentage has been below 60% and he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns.

There are 3 likely scenarios:

1) Carson doesn’t return, the team throws Andy Dalton into the fire right away and name him the starting QB.

2) Carson doesn’t return, the team signs one of the free agent QB’s above (although there are a few other QB options available but less likely in my opinion) to help groom Andy Dalton for a season or two.

3) Carson returns, while Andy Dalton learns behind him for a season or two.

What do you think will happen? If option 2 plays out, which free agent QB would you like to see the team pursue?

I kinda hope option 1 plays out. If option 2 plays out then I think Kerry Collins, due to experience would be good for Dalton to learn under.

    hey!My brother’s name is carson!

hey tim, are me and you the only ones commenting?

do any of you guys commenting

  5. Steve says:

Gradkowski is a solid answer to be the starter with Dalton waiting in the wings. Plus he’s got a history with Gruden, and he could be the starter from day one, and Dalton could be standing by when things go wrong – because they will.

I hope option #2 is the way we go. Let’s do the right thing with Dalton and let him develop under a veteran. It is unfortunate that our veteran is fed up and leaving town, as our options in the free agent market point to another painful season. If we can protect Collins, he is a good character guy that has survived a long time. Do you guys think Gradkowski has the ability/skill/talent to be successful?

    • I do think Gradkowski has the ability/skill/talent to be successful since, like Steve mentioned above, “he’s got a history with Gruden” and would fit well into a west coast style offense.
