Bengals Get 7th Round Comp Pick

Taking a quick break from the exhaultation I’ve been feeling all weekend in watching my Alma Mater, VCU, dance its way into the final four with wins over Florida State and Kansas to pass along a little bit of Bengal news.

The mothership reported that the team was awarded a seventh-round pick in next month’s draft in compensation for free agency losses last year.  The Bengals had enjoyed several comp picks over the last few years, including extra 3rd rounders in each of the past two seasons, but will have to make due with only one extra pick this year.

A seventh-round compensatory pick is awarded when it is determined that a team’s losses and gains are about even.  T.O. screws us again.

This is not to say that if a CBA is agreed upon before the draft, the team won’t be able to get more picks by trading disgruntled weenie QB Carson Palmer.

The Bengals have had success in years past with seventh rounders, including WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and S Chinedum Ndukwe.
