Penn State running back Evan Royster has private workouts with the Redskins, Bengals and the Buccaneers, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. Royster tweaked his hamstring before the NFL scouting combine and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, a disappointing time that he improved significantly at the Nittany Lions’ Pro Day workout with a 4.53 time.
The 5-foot-11, 212-pounder is a three-time All-Big Ten Conference selection and the Nittany Lions’ all-time leading rusher with 3,932 yards. He broke Curt Warner’s school record of 3,398 yards and also passed Lydell Mitchell and Larry Johnson. The biggest knock on him is his lack of ideal speed, but Royster is a sturdy, productive back who rushed for 1,236 yards as a sophomore with 1,169 yards as a junior and 1,104 yards as a senior.
