King: Bengals Open To Trade Offers For #9

King: Bengals willing to wheel and deal on Palmer

In today’s Monday Morning Quarterback on, Peter King indicates that a source within the Bengals organization has confirmed that they will entertain trade offers once the CBA is resolved:

8. I think the Bengals are doing their due diligence on the quarterback position, which tells me they might grant Carson Palmer his wish to be traded when the NFL finally gets a labor deal done. Talking to one Bengals official over the weekend, I was surprised to hear that whenever trades are allowed after the signing of a new CBA, the team will listen to offers for Palmer.

While this may be a surprise to King, it isn’t to me.  While I know that Mike Brown has a history of squeezing prima donna players who want out, I would assume that the team considers Palmer a special case.  As the quarterback of the team, having this one player above all others “on the same page” with management and the coaching staff is absolutely critical.  I think even Brown recognizes that you can’t have a disgruntled franchise quarterback.  Besides, even before Palmer’s demand, there was speculation that the team would look for his eventual replacement during this offseason.
