Leonard Shut Down; Pender Added

The Bengals made an expected move by placing RB Brian Leonard on season-ending injured reserve today, freeing a roster spot for the team to bring in CB David Pender off waivers.

Leonard was inactive last week with an ankle injury that hasn’t responded as hoped.  RB Cedric Peerman got snaps as the third down back against San Diego.

The 23-year old Pender is a rookie out of Purdue, who appeared in 3 games for the Colts, recording 2 tackles.

The Bengals have now placed 17 players on injured reserve, which is tied for the most in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.

Leonard is effective when healthy, but has battled injury issues for a significant portion of his two-year stint in the ‘Nati.
