Bengals Shut Out of the Pro Bowl

The Bengals found out Tuesday night they were one of two teams in the AFC (Buffalo the other) that will not have anyone representing them in the 2011 Pro Bowl.

That is until a ton of players cry to get out of the game with made up injuries. Even though Andrew Whitworth received the most votes at tackle in fan balloting, he will not be heading to the Pro Bowl. It is the third straight season that the Bengals won’t have a player on the original AFC roster.

Left tackle Andrew Whitworth received 372,295 fan votes, which beat out Michael Oher of Baltimore but unlike other leagues, the fan vote alone does not get you a starting spot or even a roster spot. Pro Bowl squads are based on a consensus of voting by fans, players and coaches where each count for one third.

Miami’s Jake Long, Cleveland’s Joe Thomas and the Jets’ D’Brickashaw Ferguson were selected.

“I think he’s had a fine, fine season,” said coach Marvin Lewis of Whitworth on Monday. “When you put things together and structure things offensively, particularly against this division and the people we’ve played this year, you have to be able to count on certain things. And I think we can for the most part leave him alone and know where the help needs to happen.”
