Fanene Finally Shelved; Adeyanju Added

Despite a valiant effort to contribute in 2010,  the Bengals finally acknowledged the painful truth and placed DE Jonathan Fanene on season-ending injured reserve. The team replaced him on the roster with fifth-year journeyman Victor Adeyanju.

Fanene was injured in the opener at New England (hamstring), and did not play again until some spot duty in the loss at Atlanta.  He reaggravated the injury in that game and had not responded enough to treatment for the team to consider him a viable option for the remaining seven games. With Frostee Rucker also nursing ailments, and with Antwan Odom having wrist surgery, adding a body to the DE rotation became a need.

After recording 6 sacks in 2009, Fanene finishes 2010 with 0.  His availability was a question all season, but the team was patient with him, despite reports from behind the striped curtain that his injury was severe.

Adeyanju, the 27-year old former Indiana Hoosier, was a fourth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2006.  He was cut from the Rams roster back on September 4th after playing four full seasons in the Gateway City.  His best year was 2008, when he played in all 16 games and started 9.  He finished that year with career highs in tackles (47) and sacks (2.0).
