The team again dug themselves a huge hole, falling behind 17-3 just over 5 minutes into the second quarter before finally making a game of it.
Nevertheless, the losing streak for the team is now at six, and all of the losses have been by eight points or less.
“I’m just frustrated at where we are right now,” Carson Palmer said. “We haven’t played four quarters of good football or all three phases of good football in a game and that’s what good teams do.”
The loss was cemented by the fact the Bengals committed a season high five turnovers, which resulted in 17 Indianapolis points. This year opponents have scored 71 points via turnovers.
Palmer got the team to within 6 as he threw for a 19-yard TD pass to Jermaine Gresham with 2:35 left to make it 23-17.
But after Chad Ochocinco recovered an onside kick, Gresham went from possible hero to goat just like that, as he fumbled and the Colts recovered at their own 31 to basically put the game away.
“We really have to keep working with guys understanding and seeing it the same way together,” Marvin Lewis said. “I have to look at it and just say ‘Look, are we trying to get too much done?’”
The turnovers nullified good statistical days for Palmer (31 of 42, 287 yards, two TDs and three INTs) and Gresham (9 catches, 80 yards).
For now, the team has to simply focus on getting set for next week, which is a game vs a Buffalo team which got their first win of the year Sunday.
“We have Buffalo coming in next week. We need to move forward as a team and find a way to win one game,” Palmer said.
