T.O. Fined $5000.00

Terrell Owens knew it was coming, and the NFL handed it down earlier this week, fining the wide receiver five grand for a pre-game tweet that was within the 90 minute window before games the league  has mandated as a “no tweet zone.”

As with the Antwan Odom suspension, there was no apparent malice in it or a knowing and intentional breaking of the rules.  Per Owens, he had forgotten his phone on his way to the game, and had his assistant bring it to him so he could send the tweet relative to a charitable activity he was supporting.

Nonetheless, it was a violation of NFL rules.

T.O. was pretty indignant about it.  “If I get fined for it, its cool. It’s not going to be the first thing that’s gone unappreciated for something noble or the charitable things that I’ve done,” he said.

Ironically, the creation of the rule itself can probably be traced to teammate Chad Ochocinco, whose love of social media has caused a stir and concern in NFL circles.
