The Bengals have the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month, as kicker Mike Nugent has taken home that honor:
Bengals kicker Mike Nugent has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month. Nugent went 8-for-8 on field goal attempts during the Bengals’ three September games, including makes from 54 and 50 yards. Among NFL kickers who have yet to miss a FG try, Nugent has the most total FGs by three. Nugent was hampered by a leg injury during training camp but came on over the last three games, going 3 for 4 on field goals with two from beyond 50 yards. Said special teams coach Darrin Simmons of Nugent’s performance so far: “I’ve been very pleased and encouraged. He’s getting back to where he’s more and more healthy and continues to get even stronger. The amount of work to get in position to compete and do that job, it’s a big testament to him and shows his work ethic.”
