Bengals Get a 3rd and 4th Round Compensatory Pick

The NFL announced today that the Bengals will receive compensatory picks at the end of the 3rd and 4th rounds this year, bringing their total draft choices to nine.

The 3rd round pick likely comes from the losses of WR TJ Houshmandzadeh to Seattle and OT Stacy Andrews to Philadelphia.  The 4th round pick likely comes from the loss of back-up QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who followed up a 10-start season in Cincinnati in 2008 with an 8-start season in 2009 as a Buffalo Bill.

Quoted on Bengals.com, Mike Brown said, “Over the whole history of compensatory choices, we went many years without any and being slow to figure things out. We finally did and in recent years we’ve been the recipient of them.”

The Bengals slow to figure things out?  You gotta be kidding me.  Hey, at least he admitted it….

Update:  The Bengals were one of only 3 teams to get a 3rd round compensatory pick, and they got the highest one (96th overall).  They were also the ONLY team to get a compensatory pick in the 4th round (131st overall).

Regarding the rest of the division, Pittsburgh received 2 fifth round compensatory selections (164 and 166 overall) and one seventh rounder (242).  The Ravens and Browns received no compensatory selections.
