In what’s sure to be received as welcomed news in most of Bengaldom, a report surfaced yesterday that the team has no intention of re-signing unrestricted free agent kicker Shayne Graham.  Graham was the team’s franchise player last year.

While his overall percentages have been good, Graham has built a reputation as a choke artist when the kicks are big.  He missed two attempts from inside 40 yards in the 24-14 playoff loss to the Jets.  He also missed other big kicks over the last several years, including one that would have beat the Eagles in 2008, and one that would have beat Pittsburgh and sent the Bengals to the playoffs in 2006.

The report also mentions that the team worked out several other kickers Friday, and may be leaning towards Dave Rayner, who played briefly with the club when Graham was injured.

You can read the full text of the report, courtesy of WKRC 12 in Cincinnati here.

Update:  The Cincinnati Enquirer is reporting the team tried out both Nick Novak and Dave Rayner, and that Rayner has been signed.
