Former Bengal RB DeDe Dorsey signed today to the Detroit Lions’ offseason roster.

The development was reported by the Detroit News.  You can read all the details here.

Dorsey had two stints with the Bengals, the last one during training camp. Who would make the final 53-man roster between him and Brian Leonard was one of the more intriquing subplots of the last Hard Knocks episode.

I argued in this space at the time that both should make it, and I was right.  They did.

Of course they cut him one week later to make room on the roster for Andre Manboobs, er, Smith.

Afterwards, he latched on with the UFL’s Las Vegas Locos and was named the MVP of the league’s inaugural championship game, leading the Locos to the win over the previously-undefeated Florida Tuskers (as if anyone cares).

At any rate, Dorsey may have a better shot at making the Lions than he did in Cincy. They need some depth behind starter Kevin Smith.

I have to say I’m pulling for the guy.  He seems like a good kid, and while I know Brian Leonard was definitely the guy to keep, I think Dorsey certainly has NFL talent when he’s healthy.
