Bengals Gab Championship Week Picks

Jets at Colts:  after needing help to get into the playoffs, the Jets have steamrolled through two favored teams on the road to make it to the championship game.  The Jets rely on the proven formula used by the Giants and Steelers in the past for playoff success:  A stingy, dominant defense and a powerful running game.  The Colts, meanwhile, have followed their formula, riding Peyton Manning’s leadership and talent and combining it with some opportunistic, “bend but don’t break” style defense.  The Jets will be able to effectively run on the Colts, and their defense will give Manning fits, but I still give this one to the boys in blue from Indiana.  The noise at Lucas Oil Stadium will be a huge challenge for Mark Sanchez, and I expect the Jets offense to struggle when forced to throw.  Give it to the Colts in a close one, 23-20.

Vikings at Saints:  On the surface these teams look very similar.  Both teams can score quickly and often, with the Saints are at home in the dome.  However, the Vikings have the better overall defense, and a stronger running game which evens the odds.  Add Brett Favre, who’s playing perhaps the best football of his long and illustrious career in probably his last run, and I give it to the Vikings on the road.  Look for Adrian Peterson to have success against the Saints front, and for Favre to overcome a mistake or two to pull it out in the end of high scoring affair.  Call it Vikings 34, Saints 31.

Of course, I could be wrong.  Either way, enjoy the games.  If you are like me, you’ll agonize over how if the Bengals had just beat the Jets, they could very well be playing today…
