Lewis “Very Confident” Zimmer Will Be Back

Bengals Zimmer Football

Marvin Lewis held his embarrassingly-to-soon end of season press conference today and answered various softball questions while evaded the good ones (as usual).  Unfortunately this left precious little to discern about the immediate future and possible changes, especially those the fan base is clamoring for.

Specifically, fans were interested in hearing two important statements regarding the coaching staff:

“We have re-signed defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer to a multi-year contract,” and “We’ve fired offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski.”

Unfortunately, he said neither.  However, when asked how confident he was about the possibility of retaining Zimmer, Lewis’ response was, “I’m very confident.”

Hopefully he’s right.  Zimmer is clearly the best coach on Lewis’ staff, and has been nothing short of a miracle worker in his two seasons in the Queen City.

While there were no changes announced, Lewis did stop short of saying all the coaches would be back.  When asked if he expected the coaching staff to remain intact he replied, “I do. I think our coaching staff will end up all being … “ (long pause), “we’ll be fine.”

For his part, Bratkowski stated that as far as he knew, he’d be back.

Yippee.
