Woodley says Bengals will ‘Lay Down’.

Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley proved again today that some Steelers players are not only obnoxious and arrogant, but apparently some are also under the delusion that Bengals players and coaches give a rip what they think.

“Cincinnati is probably going to go into New York and lay down for the Jets and not play them hard just because they’re not going to want to see Pittsburgh in it,” Woodley said.  “No one wants to see Pittsburgh in it. That’s just how it is. Everybody knows we’re a dangerous team once we get into the playoffs, no matter how we played the whole year. Once we get into the playoffs, the Pittsburgh Steelers is a playoff team.”

No, they ‘is’ not.  Not without a miracle.
He goes on to say that the Steelers played all out last year even after they had locked up a first round bye, beating Cleveland in the season finale 31-0; a game in which Ben Roethlisberger suffered a concussion.

“We definitely wouldn’t lay down because it’s a pride thing with us, going out there winning ballgames and shutting teams down”

Wow. Congrats. Too bad you didn’t shut more teams down this year.

Just some random thoughts and observations for LaMarr:

  • You are only a playoff team if you actually make the playoffs.  Complaining about how unfair things are at the end of the season doesn’t make you a playoff team.  As a Bengal fan, trust me, I know what I’m talking about.
  • What exactly makes you think the Bengals owe the Steelers anything?  They gave you two shots to knock them off and you failed both times. Win one of those games, and you’re in the driver’s seat and it doesn’t matter what the Bengals do against the Jets.
  • The Bengals have earned the right to treat next Sunday’s tilt in The Meadowlands as a scrimmage if they want to.  Deal with it. Would you give a darn if the tables were turned?  Don’t lie.
  • Had Pittsburgh taken care of business against Chicago, or Oakland, or Cleveland, or Kansas City, you wouldn’t be having this problem.  Look in the mirror, bub.
  • The Bengals beat the Steelers twice already, why would there be some fear of playing a team they’ve beaten twice?  (Unless you’re planning another Tonya Harding job on Carson’s knee)
  • Big Ben’s concussion in last year’s meaningless finale against Cleveland is the best argument for sitting Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco, Cedric Benson and others on Sunday.

Please don’t take this to mean I harbor any bitterness towards you.  Congratulations on winning last year’s super bowl, and the 5 others your organization has.  You earned them.  But this is another season, and those trophies and your reputation don’t mean jack today.
