PFT.com and Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer both report that Bengals brass has informed the agent for OT Levi Jones that he will be cut or traded in the near future. Kenneth Zuckerman of Priority Sports, the agency that represents both Jones and new OT Andre Smith was quoted as saying, “Prior to the owner’s meeting the team said he was going to be traded before or during the draft and if nothing happened there they would release him.”
Fans have been speculating that Jones’ days could be numbered even before the selection of Smith. He has battled injuries the last few seasons, missing the final six games of 2008, and has had difficulty with some of the league’s elite speed rushers. Jones is scheduled to earn a base salary of 3 million in 2009.
