The Bengals have themselves a new backup QB, as today the team announced the signing of former 49′ers starting QB J.T. O’Sullivan.

“J.T. saw a lot of action last year and we see him as a player with still a lot of upside,” Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said in a release. “He has experience in a number of systems and is a very sharp guy. We’re happy to have him as a backup to Carson [Palmer].”

O’Sullivan started the first eight games for San Francisco last season. He also spent time with New Orleans, where he was picked in the sixth round of the 2002 draft.

The 29-year-old has played 14 career games, completing 57.3 per cent of his passes for 1,826 yards and nine touchdowns. He also has 13 interceptions.
