Report Says Palmer to Shut it Down for Rest of the Season

Palmer

It looks as if the season is over for Bengals QB Carson Palmer. ESPN reported today that Palmer is not going to return this season for the winless Bengals, who come into the weekend at 0-7. Palmer has played just one game since week three, when he sat the first time due to soreness in his elbow. Ryan Fitzpatrick has started all the games that Palmer hasn’t played in.

The ESPN report says that Palmer is holding off on if he should have surgery to repair a “frayed” ligament in his throwing elbow. Palmer has been told that the dreaded “Tommy John surgery” would repair the issues that he’s having.

Coach Marvin Lewis didn’t exactly sound like he was ready to pull the plug on Palmer just yet. “Yes. He’s still excited about wanting to play regardless of when it becomes,” Lewis said. “Whenever he gets the green light, he wants to play. At this point, it’s still on course the way the medical people see it. The green light could come if things get totally back to normal.”

Palmer has thrown for just 664 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions in four games this season.
