WR’s: Palmer Should Shut it Down

Palmer vs Dallas

While there is no question that Bengals QB Carson Palmer is going to be out for Sunday’s showdown with the Steelers at Paul Brown Stadium, some of his own teammates think it may be time for the QB to start thinking about shutting down his elbow for the rest of the 08 season. The Bengals, at 0-6, have been without Palmer for two of the last three games, and that mark will reach three out of four Sunday.

Palmer has a “sore elbow” and it’s that injury that has kept him out of action. There has been rumblings about him needing surgery, but the fact he was able to return one week after sitting out the Browns game in late September before sitting out again shows it might not be as severe as some are saying.

As for his offensive teammates – Chad Ocho Cinco and T.J. Houshmandzaeh, they are both speaking out and saying that Palmer should think about long-term, and maybe taking off the rest of what has been a disaster season for the Bengals. “The issue with (Palmer) is a lot more serious than playing this year,” Ocho Cinco said. “We’re talking about his career in general. If it means sitting out this year or play another 20 or who knows how long he’ll be able to go, I think it’d be in his best interests to sit out.”

Marvin Lewis says it’s a “swollen elbow,” but that is not stopping the outspoken Houshmandzadeh from giving his point of view on the matter.

“It would be the smart thing to do,” he said. “Whether that will happen, I’m not sure. Carson wants to play. He’s a veteran. If we can pile up some wins, maybe things change,” T.J. said. “But with a quarterback and his arm, the arm he throws with, you’ve got to be as careful as you can in a situation like this. I’m sure he’s worried, obviously. But Carson probably has eight or nine years left to play. So you’ve just got to be smart.”
