What’s the Truth About Palmer’s Elbow Injury?

What exactly is the long term truth when it comes to Carson Palmer, his elbow, and when he may be back on the playing field? There has been a lot of speculation about Palmer ever since his name popped up on the injury report late in the week due to “elbow soreness.” Then yesterday in Cincinnati, word hit the press box that Palmer was not going to play against the Browns, and it would be Ryan Fitzpatrick.

There were whispers right away yesterday about the dreaded “Tommy John” surgery, and how Palmer might actually need it, which would not only put his 08 season on the shelf, but who knows long term how it could affect his career. When Palmer was asked about the injury being a long-term thing, he said “I hope not.”

Also when asked if the MRI on the arm showed anything scary, Palmer simply said: “I’m not going to comment on everything.” Looks like that this injury is more serious than they are letting on. The Bengals season is already turning into a disaster, as with Palmer they for sure would have had a great shot to beat the Browns yesterday. With Fitzpatrick looking like a keystone cop falling over his own feet, they lost 20-12.

For now, the Bengals enter a week of uncertainty, and likely will have to throw Fitzpatrick into the fire again against a Dallas team that is peeved about an upset loss to the Redskins on Sunday. Think Ken Anderson would leave his job with the Steelers to come back, or maybe Boomer leave the broadcast set to play a few games?
