Bengals Ready for the “Battle of Ohio”

Showing signs of life on the field, if not yet in the standings, the Bengals look for a fresh 2008 start in Game 1 of the “Battle of Ohio” series. The rival Cleveland Browns are also 0-3, so seldom in 69 past meetings have both teams so badly needed a win.

Cincinnati has won six of the last seven meetings against the Browns, including four in a row at home. Last week, the Bengals mixed a dash of encouragement with a bitter pill, losing 26-23 in overtime at the home of the unbeaten and defending NFL champion New York Giants. In a game with no turnovers or other sudden field position changes, the Bengals offense played stride-for-stride with the Giants in mounting methodical drives.

“We did a lot of good things,” Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said after the Giants game. “But not enough, and not for long enough.”

This is the 70th staging of the “Battle of Ohio.” The Bengals lead 35-34, including a 22-13 lead as the home team.
