Bengals Top Colts 27-7 to End Preseason at .500

While in the end it won’t matter, the Bengals finally have something to feel good about this preseason.  Tonight at Lucas Oil Field with all their starters sitting the bench, the Bengals laid it on the Colts, beating the defending AFC South Champs 27-7.  The cats scored on their first two series to build an early lead they would never lose.

Chris Perry got a lot of work at running back, as he rushed nine times for 20 yards and scored on a five-yard run.  Ryan Fitzpatrick started at QB and went  5-of-8 for 35 yards with one TD pass before leaving in the first half.  “We did a nice job closing out the football game,” Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. “I think we got accomplished what we needed to accomplish and we came out healthy.”

Cincy outgained the Colts 301-154, and had 18 first downs to just 9 for the Colts.  They also held a big advantage in time of possession, holding the ball for 35:56 to just 24:04 for the Colts.  What may have been most impressive is the fact that the Bengals ran for a whopping 171 yards on the ground, 4.5 yards per carry, holding the Colts to just 41 rushing yards.

The team will now take their 2-2 preseason mark and look to make the most of it as they get set for their regular season opener on September 7th vs the Ravens at 1pm in Baltimore.
