Bengals First Team Offense Not Showing Much so Far

Perry can't make the grab

While the preseason is supposed to be a time for working out the bugs for the regular season, it would sure be nice to see the Bengals first team offense decide to cross the goal-line before their season opener.  Panic has not yet struck the Queen City and head coach Marvin Lewis when it comes to what the Bengals have not shown in the preseason when it comes to offense, but the team clearly has a ways to go before they host the Ravens in the season opener.  To date they have yet to score a TD with the first team offense in two games, and in four series with Carson Palmer at QB Saturday night vs the Saints, the team gained just 62 net yards.

Palmer for one, did not seemed to concerned about the lack of points the Bengals didn’t put up against the Saints.  “We were very successful with them when we practiced with them (New Orleans Saints) twice (Thursday),” Palmer said. “We were doing a bunch of different stuff. You don’t want to show too much in these preseason games. … You don’t want to put too much out there film-wise, and we were vanilla. But in saying that, you still want to score. You still need to score. And when you are vanilla, you need to do everything perfect. And we weren’t perfect inside the red zone.”

The four Palmer drives ended with two punts, and a turnover when Palmer lost a fumble on a sack.  While the Bengals scored just one TD on four drives inside the Saints red-zone, the team showed that they have to get things headed in the right direction before the opener.  One thing that is not helping is missing two starting tackles – Levi Jones and Willie Anderson.  The team has two preseason games left – at Atlanta and at home for Indy to get things on the right track before the Ravens come calling.
